![]() A superb large size head & shoulders of the classic German soldier circ: 1939 Price: S OLD At the beginning of the Second World War, various versions of the 'classic German soldier' were created and sold to patriotic homes. Although they were all similar in terms of having bear shoulders and wearing the steel helmet to the head, many variations on this theme existed. This example is one of the largest that were generally available, standing just over 12" high with base. Detail to the head and shoulders is typically fine and on this version a two tier green marble base has been fitted. The head and shoulders exhibits a wonderful patina to the silver finish. This exact example is shown in the publication, German Insignia of World War II, page 100. (ISBN 0-7858-1473-6). Close to mint condition.
![]() A carved smoking pipe from the 1790's removed from Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring's house on the Obersalzburg by an American Officer in 1945 Price: SOLD This important and intricately carved smoking pipe dates back to the 1790's. Carved from a hard wood it is believed to be of French or Belgium origin and is beautifully carved with hunting scenes. How this pipe came into the possession of Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring is not known, but in 1945 it was removed by a serving American Officer from a shelf next to Göring's desk within his house on the Obersalzburg. The pipe was given to this officers best friend, a tank commander under General Patton and it remains the property of this officers son to this day. ULRIC of ENGLAND has been asked to sell the pipe on commission for the son. It will be sold with full letters of provenance. |
